The single features Nicole Fiorentino (Smashing Pumpkins, Veruca Salt, The Cold & Lovely) on backing vocals and Eric Gardner (Iggy Pop, Morrisey, Tegan & Sara, Tom Morello, Cyprus Hill, Moby) on drums (as does the rest of the album).
Recorded at theLAB in LA with Frankie Siragusa at the production desk, making Plans for the end is a song at the poppier end of NWOH’s spectrum; with Keevill describing it as ‘a song with a crazy tuning, some out there chords, a wall of sound chorus and some pretty spiteful lyrics, that still manages to sound super pure and harmoniously poppy’.
At 14 songs and over an hour long, NWOH sees the band putting together a cohesive opus which has enough musical and emotional variety to keep the listener engaged throughout. It’s a bright, hopeful album with flashes of moody new wave and shoegaze; according to Keevill it has ‘enough darkness to keep it on the edge’.
