Yesterday (May 20), we reported that Megadeth bassist David Ellefson had lost his older brother to cancer. In response to the family tragedy, Megadeth have chosen to cancel their immediate tour plans.
Eliot Gordon Ellefson passed away at the age of 51 after a two-year battle with cancer. In the bassist’s book ‘My Life with Deth,’ David Ellefson characterized his brother as a disciplined, hard worker who was focused on becoming a farmer since youth. “With much sadness, my brother Eliot Gordon Ellefson went home to see the Lord today after a two year battle with cancer,” David Ellefson posted on his Facebook page. “We love you El, you will be missed so much.”
At this time, Megadeth have decided to cancel all tour dates over the next month and are currently scheduled to return to the road on June 20 for the Amnesia Rockfest in Montebello, Quebec. The band’s post reads as follows:
Megadeth has canceled immediate tour plans as bassist David Ellefson and his family mourn the loss of his brother, who passed away on May 19, in Minneapolis, Minn. after battling cancer. A private family funeral service will be held.
The band sends their deepest condolences and prayers to David during this time and ask that the fans please do the same.

The canceled shows include June festival dates in Sweden, France, The Netherlands, Denmark, Austria, Hungary and the Czech Republic
We’d like to once again extend our sympathies to the Ellefson family during this difficult time.
