Behemoth Detained in Russia by Federal Migration Service Yesterday

Behemoth-7Behemoth have been detained in Russia while on their three-week ‘Russian Satanist’ tour. Earlier today (May 21), frontman Nergal made fans aware of the situation via Facebook, encouraging everyone to share his message with as many people as possible.

Nergal’s Facebook post was written in Polish, and due to translation issues it has been falsely reported that Behemoth have been detained for being “evil.” In fact, the band is being held by Russian immigrant services due to having the “wrong visas”. However, due to Behemoth’s recent bible-tearing incident and the Russian imprisonment of Pussy Riot members, the scenario is understandably frightening.

Nergal posts:

We’ve been stopped by the [Russian] immigration services for ‘wrong visas.’ When I said that we will not move an inch from the club without someone from the Polish embassy, they threatened to force us out. They took us in a bus, accompanied by 10 officers, to the building of Federal Migration Service. We tried to reach polish embassy in Jekaterinburg but no one is answering the phone.

If possible — please copy this message and pass it everywhere you can. We may expect a multi-hour hearing.

“The concert is off for sure. The only thing we want is to get back to the hotel safely and then — to Poland. No matter how hard we try — we cannot pass it all. [translation via Blabbermouth]

Tonight’s Behemoth show at TeleClub in Yekaterinburg, Russia has been canceled, but there is no news on the status of Behemoth’s four additional Russian gigs. Stay tuned for more information as news breaks.
