Bon Jovi drummer Tico Torres is back behind the drum kit after two health emergencies.
The 59-year old had his appendix removed after experiencing pain during the band’s tour of South America last month. Just a week later he underwent gall bladder surgery.
Rich Scannella, the drummer with Jon Bon Jovi’s side project the Kings Of Suburbia, had been standing in until Torres went back to work on Wednesday night in Fresno, California.
The band released a photo of the drummer in action, saying: “Welcome back Tico ‘The Hitman’ Torres! After a round of emergency surgeries, Tico came back to the tour tonight and played the full 2hr and 20min set!”
Frontman Bon Jovi had previously paid tribute to his bandmate, saying: “Tico has been the heart and soul of our band since we started 30 years ago. He’s also one tough SOB. We look forward to him pounding away brilliantly on the remainder of this and future tours.”
There’s still no word on the chances of guitarist Richie Sambora returning to the band. He bowed out at short notice for unexplained reasons in April, with speculation rife that he and Jon Bon Jovi had a severe falling out. Phil X has been touring in his place.
