Having recently revealed the dark, edgy and twisted cinematic experience that is the video for new single ‘Wasps’ and details of their debut album ‘The Revolution is Never Coming’, Australia’s The Red Paintings have now announced details of their upcoming November/December UK tour with Mindless Self Indulgence.
The tour will see them play 7 shows across the UK, as well as a further 13 dates in Europe, their first shows here since a packed club tour with The Pineapple Thief earlier this year. The band recently completed a sold out theatre tour with Mindless Self Indulgence across North America, prompting their invitation to return to the UK.
The Red Paintings combine performance art and music in a spectacular live show. Each show features unique visual projections along with human body and canvas painters who join them on stage to create artworks that reflect their music and energy.Their sound evokes child-like lullabies of the future, to biting, alternative rock numbers. They are sometimes compared to multi-faceted acts like Radiohead, Muse, Smashing Pumpkins, Arcade Fire and their appeal reaches across baroque-pop steam-punks, metal-heads, indie-rock, prog and folk.
The band have played festivals such as Big Day Out, Y-Not, Great Escape and toured internationally with acts including art-rockers Dresden Dolls, neo-punks Mindless Self Indulgence, …And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead and post-rockers Mogwai.
‘The Revolution Is Never Coming’ is due for release on 30th September through Graphite Records (LostAlone, Mojo Fury, InMe) and the video for ‘Wasps’ is online here – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-iUVFcwZE4
Bryan Carlstrom – Producer, Engineer (Alice in Chains, Rob Zombie):
“In my entire 30 year career I’ve not mixed such a diverse, colourful and emotionally dynamic album such as this, it’s like a 21st century War of the Worlds.”
Trash McSweeney – The Red Paintings:
‘’People create an album around a life, I created a life around an album.’’
“Like a thrilling manic descent on a violent helter-skelter ride it’s grandiose absinthe-soaked delirium never wavers.” 4/5 – Rolling Stone, Australia
“To say that experimental art rock band The Red Paintings have a flair for the dramatic is an understatement. The group, the brainchild of Trash McSweeney, is well known for their raucous, bizarre and engaging live performances so we were definitely looking forward to seeing their latest video for “Wasps.” The result is a dark, cinematic and slightly disturbing clip that is not dissimilar in spirit to work from NIN or 30 Seconds To Mars” – MTV, USA
