Beastie Boys members Ad-Rock and Mike D have just entered into a bizarre collaboration with one of music’s most polarizing figures. The legendary MC’s have teamed up with the one and only Yoko Ono for the experimental musician’s new track ‘Bad Dancer.’
The entire music world hung its head in sadness after Beastie Boys member Adam ‘MCA’ Yauch died of cancer on May 4, 2012. The Brooklyn native’s passing left the Beastie Boys without one of their key members, thus leaving the future of the iconic rap outfit very questionable. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Mike D claimed that the Beastie Boys were most likely finished, but that MCA would have wanted both Mike D and Ad-Rock to “try whatever crazy thing we wanted but never got around to.” This collaboration with Yoko Ono may be exactly what Mike D was talking about.
You won’t hear Mike D or Ad-Rock in their usual capacity within the Plastic Ono Band’s ‘Bad Dancer.’ In fact, the Beastie duo remixed the song while providing additional beats, programming and “other curve balls” to the track.
For those familiar with Yoko Ono’s music, ‘Bad Dancer’ certainly dwells within the twisted realm manifested by Ono, dodging any type of casual classification. The near three-minute track is now available for streaming on the Plastic Ono Band’s official website. ‘Bad Dancer’ will appear on Ono’s upcoming ‘Take Me to the Land of Hell’ album, which is set to drop on Sept. 17 in the States.
