Queens of the Stone Age are upping the creepy factor in the lead up to their ‘…Like Clockwork‘ album. The band has just launched a website in which fans can input their phone number for a call from the darkness.
Fans who go to the Likeclockwork.tv website are shown a dark and cavernous room in which the spooky sounds of the harsh wind in the distance echo through the estate. By clicking within the website, the viewer is taken directly to a telephone. As you enter your phone number, a pair of eyes peer out and a barely seen hand begins to dial the phone to call you.
What follows is a message with a demonic digitally manipulated voice to it in which the person on the other end offers, “Is there anybody out there, or am I just walking alone?” The message continues with questions like “Where are you hiding my love?” and a prose-like delivery before signing off. After the message concludes, the website offers a splash page telling fans to return May 6 and gives a pre-order link. In addition, the phone that received the phone call gets a text message reminder about the May 6 date.
What does it all mean? So far Queens of the Stone Age have been cryptic with all their new album hints, so a clearer clue may be coming this Monday (May 6). In the interim, feel free to test out the promo at the LikeClockwork.tv website here.
The ‘…Like Clockwork’ album is due in stores June 4. The band is currently promoting their new single ‘My God Is the Sun,’ a track that they debuted live at Lollapalooza in Brazil.
