Exciting times are on the horizon for UK’s Dan Croll, like a ‘latterday Beck’, ‘the missing link between Jake Bugg & Joe Mount’ he is half-Communion acoustic boy and half-electronica whizz. The reaction to early single ‘From Nowhere’ was immense and announced Dan’s arrival in no uncertain terms. It became a regular on Radio 1, XFM and 6 Music, and picked up well over 100,000 streams on SoundCloud in just two weeks, with blogs and websites clambering to feature it to the extent that it made the #1 spot on the Hype Machine charts.
Produced with Swedish Afrobeat producer Johan Hugo of The Very Best, follow up single ‘Compliment Your Soul’ has a pan-cultural feel that reflects his love of a whole variety of different musical genres. Picking off influences from far and wide; the world music of Paul Simon, experimental orchestral work with African choirs, 1960’s psychedelia and sounds of Mars Volta, Beirut, Bon Iver, Vampire Weekend and Dirty Projectors.
LIPA graduate and Paul McCartney endorsed Dan Croll is part of a new wave of Liverpool-based bands including Outfit, Stealing Sheep,Kankouran and Jethro Fox and is leading the charge of this first hub of local activity since the days of the Coral and the Zutons. Already turning heads; Q made his demo of ‘Home’ one of their Essential Downloads, Communion Records included his track ‘Marion’ on their most recent ‘New Faces’ compilation album, he won the Songwriter of the Year Award from the Musicians Benevolent Fund and andeveryone from Huw Stephens to Annie Mac & Nick Grimshaw are showing support.
‘Compliment Your Soul’ will be released through Racquet Records on the 1st April 2013.
Having already supported Maps, Michael Kiwanuka and Bombay Bicycle Club and headlined The Old Blue Last to a rapturous response. Dan will head out across the USA through March with Chvrches, Little Green Cars and Darwin Deez before heading to SXSW. Returning to the UK for a tour and festival apperances.
Dan is continuing to work on his debut album set for release in 2013. After listening to this we’re pretty damned excited.
