Rammstein will make their Download Festival debut when they headline the third and final night of the event on Sunday 16 June next year.
The German outfit have been confirmed as third headliners, following the announcement that Iron Maiden will return to Donington on Friday 14 June to close the first day’s show and mark 25 years since they first appeared at Monsters of Rock.
Promoter Andy Copping seems to harbour no hard feelings after Till Lindemann and co added the event to their tour listings 24 hours earlier than the agreed announcement date. He tweets: “If you haven’t already sussed it, Rammstein are the second headliner. Thanks to our German friends for announcing 24 hours early!”
But the band are typically obscure with their reaction. Asked to comment on the news they say: “It’s only a festival – not a moon landing.”
Coppying adds: “We’re excited to welcome Rammstein to Donington for the very first time. They’re an epic live act and a perfect Sunday headliner to cap off what’s shaping up to be a fantastic festival.”
The headline act for the opening night, Friday, June 14, will be announced soon.
