Green Day erupted in rage mid-song on Friday night after being told their set was to be cut short. See the video below.
While playing classic track Basket Case at the I Heart Radio festival in Las Vegas a stage sign told them they had one minute remaining – when they were supposed to have 21 more minutes.
They’d planned to perform new material from upcoming album Uno! but were ordered to get off stage early so pop star Usher could go on.
Frontman Billie Joe Armstrong immediately stopped the song, telling his bandmates: “Aw, fuck this shit. I want to play a fucking new song. Fuck this shit.”
Turning to the audience he continued: “Give me a fucking break – one minute left? One minute left. You’re going to give me fucking one minute? Look at that fucking sign right there. One minute.
“Let me fucking tell you something. I’ve been around since fucking nineteen-eighty-fucking-eight. You’re going to give me one fucking minute? You’ve got to be fucking kidding me. What the fuck? I’m not fucking Justin Bieber, you motherfuckers.
“You got to be fucking joking. This is a fucking joke. I got one minute, one minute left – oh, now I got nothing left.”
Taking off his guitar he said: “Let me show you what one fucking minute fucking means.”
He then smashed his guitar off the stage as bassist Mike Dirnt followed suit.
As the band walked off the frontman told the crowd: “One minute! God fucking love you all. We’ll be back.” He threw his mic behind him as he left.
Armstrong recently said that Bon Jovi, who played the festival earlier that same day, were the worst band he’d ever shared a stage with.
