Slash has discussed the long-standing rumour that his mum had an affair with David Bowie.
Ola Hudson, who died in 2009, was working with the glam rock icon during the mid-70s. But now Slash has opened up on air about how their relationship went much further – even though, at around eight years old, he didn’t fully understand what was going on.
Despite recently forbidding interviewers to ask him about his past, the guitarist tells Triplem: “My mum started working with David professionally at first. I’m pretty sure that’s how it started. Then it turned into some sort of mysterious romance that went on for a while after that.
“She did his wardrobe for his whole Thin White Duke period and The Man Who Fell To Earth movie that he did. She did all that and he was around for a while.
“He was always over – they were always together. I caught them naked once. They had a lot of stuff going on, but my perspective was limited. Looking back on it, I know exactly what was going on.
“When I look back on that whole combination of people, I can only imagine how freaky it was.”
Meanwhile, the former Guns n’Roses axeman, who last week admitted he can’t sing on stage because he’s too busy making guttural growls, explains that he tries to keep the volume down on his instrument when he’s not playing a gig.
“I am way too insecure, introverted and paranoid to let anyone hear anything I play when I am not on stage,” He says. “Ask my wife – she never gets to hear anything.”
