Mark Lanegan could be lined up to replace tragic Alice in Chains singer Layne Staley in dormant side-project Mad Season. The band, which also features Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready, had written a second album before Staley returned to AIC and later died of a drugs overdose. McCready says: “We have 13 songs we never did. We’re trying to find singers up to the calibre of Layne. I know a lot of them, but it’s getting the commitment.” Now Mad Season and Screaming Trees drummer Barrett Martin has said Lanegan is the man for the job. He collaborated with Staley on three songs on the project’s first release. [Banana 1015]
