Travis Barker was forced to give up drugs after doctors found six ulcers in his stomach.
The Blink 182 drummer reveals the news ended his enjoyment of smoking weed – something he’d hoped he could carry on doing for the rest of his life.
He’d been using cannabis to help with anxiety issues, which he’s been suffering ever since his near-fatal plane crash in 2008.
Barker tells Red Bulletin: “I used to love smoking weed. I would smoke at night if I had anxiety. I always thought I’d be able to do it for the rest of my life.
“But when your health is on the line you don’t mess around. I love being a dad and I love playing music – I’m not trying to give up any of that.”
He recently said he’d try to beat his fear of flying with the help of sedation, as an alternative to sitting out Blink 182′s planned tour of Australia later this year.
They had to cancel a number of shows recently following his diagnosis with Barrett’s oesophagus, a stomach acid condition which caused his ulcers. It led to an emergency operation in which he had his tonsils removed.
