Keeping the hair high and the ‘80s alive, glam-rockers Steel Panther have reinvented the era with their live shows and west coast residencies. Their shows have become as infamous for their guest appearances as they have for their over-the-top performances and at a recent gig at the House of Blues in West Hollywood, Calif. (May 28), former Dio and current Def Leppard guitarist Vivian Campbell hopped on stage to perform a duo of songs with the spandex clad Panthers.
Frontman Michael Starr introduced the Dio song saying, “Now this one, we played ‘Rainbow in the Dark’ with Vivian, it was the first time he’s played it since he was in Dio, it was with us at the House of Blues in Orange County by Disneyland. Vivian decided he wanted to do it again with us. We’re so f—in – I can’t even put it into words, it’s like doing pure cocaine – it’s just f—ing killer.”
Guitarist Satchel, who moved over to bass for the song to make room for Campbell on guitar, weighed in as well saying, “You are going to be f—ing blown away. We’ve never done this song we’re about to do, but you’re going to be blown away at how f—ing good the bass is gonna sound on this one. It’s going to be like Billy Sheehan times ten!” To which Michael Starr quickly responded, ‘It’s going to be like Bobby Dall times one.”

Campbell announced plans few months back to join up with three original Dio members – Vinny Appice, Jimmy Bain and Claude Schnell – for a few shows to perform music from the early years, before Campbell joined the band. Andrew Freeman is slated to handle vocal duties.
Campbell also performed the Def Leppard tune ‘Rock of Ages’ with Steel Panther.
