Mark Bam Bam McConnell, who was a member of Sebastian Bach’s band for eight years, has died after suffering kidney and liver failure.
The drummer was rushed to hospital early yesterday where doctors said he’d suffered brain damage as a result of the shock to his system.
Bach called on fans to pray for his “amazing drummer and lifelong friend” before McConnell’s family confirmed he’d died.
He was a member of Blackfoot for a year in 1996 before being sacked. He joined the former Skid Row singer later in 1997 and remained until 2005.
A relative last night said: “Mark passed at 9.42 this morning, surrounded by family and close friends. We will miss him. He was previous to all of us and touched all our hearts deeply and profoundly.
“On behalf of our family, thank you to all of you for your prayers and support.”
The musician’s wife, Rikki, said: “My sweet, beautiful best friend and husband. I miss you so much, and so do Sarah and Patch. I’ll take good care of them. My time with you was way too short – but what an adventure. I’ll love you always. You’ll forever be in my heart.”
McConnell’s niece commented: “When I was saying goodbye to Uncle Mark, he said to watch the sunset when I miss him, because that’s where I’d be with him. Tonight I went to the beach. There was a beautiful sunset on one side and the other side was full of black stormy clouds. The sun was huge and firey red. The second it disappeared under the horizon, it poured and started thundering like crazy. All I could think of was him drumming. It was an amazing thing to see, and I thank you Uncle Mark for creating such a beautiful thing. I love you.”
