Larry Rhino Reinhadrt, a founder of Captain Beyond and also an Iron Butterfly alumni, has died at the age of 63.
A guitarist with Iron Butterfly for their 1970 albumMetamorphosis(replacing Erik Brann), Reinhardt then went on to form Captain Beyond, who also featured original Deep Purple vocalist Rod Evans.
Captain Beyonds self-titled 1972 album is now regarded as an American hard rock cult classic.
Born and raised in Florida, Reinhardt began his professional playing career in the mid 60s.
Reinhardts earliest bands of note were The Thunderbeats,The Load and The Second Coming,which also had Dickey Betts, Berry Oakley and Reeese Wynans in the line-up.(Betts and Oakley would later join The Allman Brothers Bandwhile Wynans would go on to play with Stevie Ray Vaughan.)
The cause of Reinhardts death is not known, although he was reportedly suffering from multiple ailments.
